Michigan State University senior Emanuele Berry has received the 2011 Ed Bradley Scholarship from the Radio Television Digital News Association.
Berry, a journalism student in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences and also in the MSU Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, is the first MSU student to receive the $10,000 award.
Berry is the 17th student in the nation to receive the scholarship since 1994, when it was established in honor of Ed Bradley, the late CBS News and 60 Minutes award-winning correspondent.
"I hope to one day be a reporter on public radio or TV and tell the kind of in-depth stories that Ed Bradley covered," she said. "I feel privileged to receive an award associated with Bradley, a reporter I highly admired.”
Berry is the news director of the award-winning MSU college radio station WDBM. This past summer, while working as a reporting intern for the MSU public radio station WKAR, she also assisted in analyzing digital literacy programs in Detroit. In addition to radio, Berry has worked on two documentary films with faculty member Geri Alumit Zeldes.
She will receive the award in the next few weeks, and will be recognized at the RTDNA Excellence in Journalism Convention Sept. 20-22 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Berry is expecting to earn her degrees in December. She is from Lansing.
